For many peoples and cultures around the world, the rainbow is a symbol of hope. Rainbows appear after the storm and remind us to look at what is ahead. Hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and a desire for a specific thing to happen. We love the sense of anticipation and expectation, knowing that bigger and better is coming. What lies ahead is greater than what lies behind.
The sun has just risen over Uganda, and as you make your way down a red dirt road located south of Kampala, the fog begins to lift.
Your name is Hellen, and you are a member of the Batwa tribe. In 1991 your grandparents were forcibly removed from their ancestral home in the rainforest. For generations, your tribe had been the guardians of the rainforest.
With their way of life taken from them, your tribe has suffered many hardships. You attend a local school and hope to learn the skills needed to break the cycle of poverty and help restore some of what has been taken from your community.
The Stickers from Uganda you draw are now on their way worldwide. You have helped impact your community and pave the way for a better future. So many Batwa children we work with have struggled with impoverished childhoods or were orphaned at a young age. The mission of Stickers from Uganda is to show love to those in need and support education, homes, food, and medical care for children from the Batwa tribe in Uganda.
